German chamomile hydrolat is the aromatic water that remains after steam-distilling German chamomile (Matricaria recutita) essential oil.
It is commonly used for skincare, soothing sensitive, irritated, or inflamed skin (eczema, rosacea, rashes, sunburn), calming redness. It can be used as a refreshing facial mist or to soothe an itchy or flaky scalp. It can be applied without dilution.
German chamomile is mildly calming, relaxing, and grounding and can be used to reduce stress and restlessness. It is gentle enough to be used with babies.
German chamomile hydrolat has a mild, herbal, and slightly sweet scent, compared to the strong medicinal essential oil. It may have an earthy/green but fresh undertone compared to the more sweet, floral roman chamomile.
